Tick each question a supplier can answer with evidence about the shear you are sourcing. Five ticks means they are telling you the truth about the steel — not selling you a grade label.

They name the exact grade by its standard designation (e.g. UNS S44004), not just a marketing name. They state the HRC with its test method (ASTM E18 / ISO 6508) and the point on the blade it was measured. They confirm whether the hardness is a per-lot tested value or a nominal design figure — and can show a report. They state where the steel is from and where the shear is finished, separately (e.g. Japanese steel, finished in China). They describe the heat treatment (e.g. vacuum + cryogenic), since grade alone does not decide quality. Score this supplier →
