Before you buy any “left-handed” shear, run these three checks. A true reverse-ground lefty passes all three; a flipped right-handed pair fails at least one. Tick each check that your shear passes.

1. Thumb blade sits at the backHold it in cutting position — the thumb-controlled blade is the back-most blade. If it is in front, it is a flipped righty.

2. Top blade rides on the leftWith the shear open, the upper blade is on the left, giving the left hand a clear view of the cutting line.

3. Clean tissue slice in the left handIt slices a sheet of tissue cleanly with one pass. A flipped righty pushes or folds the tissue first.
